Al Ain, AI-Enabled Cyber Capabilities in 2024, and a Look Beyond
By Rudy Guyonneau, PhD - Director of Research, ORYXLABS
The following is an abstract to the attached whitepaper on the impact of AI on cyber capabilities.
The importance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in cyberwarfare has grown significantly, turning our 2019 vision into real capabilities. AI is the cybereye that provides essential situational awareness in the cyber domain, the fifth battlefield, by matching the machine domain’s tempo: processing vast amounts of data at the speed of machines, to offer insights that human reasoning alone cannot achieve.
AI can be used to enhance or even unlock a number of critical cyber defence functions, from threat detection, incident response and intelligence gathering, to training and operational efficiency. Its integration in cyber defence is equally essential to absorb the many instances of data overload that plague the domain. Yet its success will depend on operational adoption, massive computational power and methodical data management.
Taking all of these elements into account, a strong argument emerges for the creation of a sovereign national cyber defence platform, Al Ain, the metaphorical anvil on which to forge and deploy the AI-enabled cyber capabilities of today - and build those of the future. Looking ahead, AI is indeed poised to shift the advantage toward defence in cyberoperations, possibly carrying the factor of superiority in the cyber domain. That is, if the power it brings and its potential implications are properly accounted for.
